My goals are over-ambitious. Can I become a level 17 rock climbing gladiator / computer wizard dude with a pilot’s license? Absolutely. All of my goals are achievable but I give myself excuses or let things get in the way.  Ever heard of these: job, family, child, eating and sleeping? …ridiculous.  The list continues with less responsibility driven things such as videogames and drinking.  I like having a laundry list because it reminds me of the truth. Life is a Hydra. Cut one head off and more will emerge.  Life is perpetual.

How to manage? Perhaps baby lists and baby steps (every time I see the phrase “baby steps” I imagine Bill Murray saying it from the movie What About Bob?) Ah, these are wonderful useful tools to cut down on the endlessness or the infinite into manageable slabs of action, time, and peace. Really I just wrote slabs because I like the image of all of these ideas being displayed like chunks of meat or something at a shop, all the pieces varying in price based on any number of things.  Perhaps all boiling down to economics: price and value. What do we afford and what do we indebt ourselves to? Another thought for a different day.  To each their own.  Today is about goals, these are mine for this year:

Writing:

  1.     Write another movie script
  2.     Write a second-draft of my first movie script
  3.     Submit movie scripts to agent / contests

  6.     Have a weekly “Sketches” post on my blog
  7.     Write a comedy sketch a week
  8.     Produce / film comedy sketches once a month

  15.     Possibly write a children’s book
  16.     Podcast once or twice a month

Life:
  1.     Connect with thinkers / writers / doers
  2.     Meet new people on a constant basis
  3.     Applaud the works of others
  4.     Help others achieve their dreams
  5.     Read more / read better
  6.     This is a “me” year, a year of internal and external discovery, this can also be described as a year of questions or a year of curiosity
  7.     Spend more time with my daughter- talking, and exploring the world
  8.     Be able to actually afford an all-inclusive resort
  9.     Go to an all-inclusive resort
  10.     Take a road trip somewhere
  11.     Pay off debts or pay off some debts
  12.     Do some charity work, possibly with soup kitchens or food gatherers or such…
Stay Tuned... updates and new world's / reflections /opportunities abounds!

Lacking the lust, watered in the mind, diluted or un-fixed, cracked, brain fried- however it be... here's a new list of goals to fill up the year's end 7-month stretch. Let's see if I can swim in this appropriated gasp.

First the what, then the how:

GOALS

  • 50 photo strips - those done + 1/week + few extra to push.
  • 100 comic strips - those done + 3/week + few extra to push.
  • 30 - 60 sketches - all new - 1 or 2/week.
  • 25 episodes - all new -1/week.
  • 35 poems - 1/week + few extra to push.
  • 2 personal zines - 1 or 2 articles/week per quarter.
  • 2 humor zines - 1 or 2 articles/week per quarter.
  • 4 22min filmed sketch shows - filmed every other month?
  • 1/4th of a movie - a page a week - (two year project).
 Extra:
    • Create an article zine by August.
    • Submit to somewhere on a constant basis.
Why not just work on one thing completely? pssshaw.

By doing most of these things once a week, there isn't as much pressure and there's very little overlap.

(The process and progress of each of these goals will be updated throughout the year)

Write 22 more episodes of webisode series with my friend Jules
  • We’ve 3 episodes in rough draft form. Being a stickler for fancy numbers and all, I’d like to put together 25 in all. Plans- to film them some time.

Write 17 more episodes of a TV show with my friend Dujuan

  • We’re currently working on our 9th episode in rough draft form.  This particular episode has a musical number featuring a gay darth vader-esque character- stay tuned. Off-topic this reminds me of a picture I saw of a female darth vader costume… t’was hot. Plans- to film them some time.

Write 52 Comedy Sketches

  • One per week.  A sad slim goal. My actual goal- pumping out a sketch a day, whatever the length but at the moment one a week is absolutely more doable. Yes.  One of my dream jobs would be to work for Saturday Night Live. Writers for the show are supposed to put out 2-3 sketches per week (of which any or none may be produced).   Plans- to film them (sometime). For info on SNL’s process go here, to find out "how" to become a writer on SNL go here, to watch a lengthy interview with some of the more recent writers of the show go here.

Write 52 Blog Posts

  • Again, once a week, most likely on Sundays. This is a slim sad goal that is meant to have low-bar standards (obviously so I can get to drinks faster and easier albeit in my dreams).  Once the blog is fully-operational, it should be nuanced with niches clichéd by productivity.

Write/Draw 156 Comic Strips

  • I miss putting together crudely drawn imaginations.  Plan to put three up on the blog a week- M W F.  Let’s see how this holds up!  (this is counting from the beginning of the year so I’m comfortably behind).  Plan to put into a short collection at the end of the year and sell for millions of dollars a year.

Write/Create 4 Personal Zines

  • One for each quarter. Personal zines will be collections of writings, thoughts, blog posts, interactions, quixotic ramblings and other such fun things one smiles at when asleep in another’s arms naked from the tibula down.

Write/Create 4 Humor Cake Zines

  • One for each quarter. A collaborative comedy zine where people can contribute to and celebrate their immaculate genius in print, that is to say on some paper.  All to jiggle body parts and/or create teary orifices.

Write a Movie

  • Next year: write a novel to hide in my bedside drawer underneath a pile of soiled things. This year- a hilarious movie script (same intention).

Write 12 Full-fledged songs of hilarity

  • Some with lyrics, music and an angry screaming monkey in the background.

Tweet 5 business days a week

  • (minus sick days, vacation days, personal days, other people’s vacation days that make it seem like a vacation, etc.) These tweets will be the usual farcical/satirical, reverent and inane news briefs and today is—random something days tweets. Plan to create a calendar out of the a-days for next year to sell for millions of dollars a year. (to view my twitter account, click here)

NaNoWriMo

NaPoWriMo

  • Participate in April’s National Poetry Month (by writing a poem or three-thousand one-stanza haikus).

24hr Comics Day

24hr Zine Day
  • Participate in July’s International Zine Month by creating a zine in 24 hours.  (The abbreviation INaZiWriMo didn’t seem too keen). 24 hour zine thing is the place to find out more detail-ish stuff on what I just typed about.

12 Letters to Authors

  • Write a letter each month to one of my favorite, awesome, fantastic authors: whom has yet to be determined. (...and thus begins twelve letters to myself.)

12 Letters to My Daughter

  • Write a letter each month to my daughter, noting how she’s growing, what’s she’s done, what I’m thinking and learning about her and random thoughts and plans for the future, etc.

Random Lists to Create

  • Things I’ve achieved in life, best life experiences, things I’m greatful for (yes, this is how I prefer to spell greatful) , favorite books, movies, songs, etc. Randomly interested in creating them so that's why, yeah.

Stand-up Routine

  • Write one for the performancing of humor / gain skill points in humor performancery.

Podcastery

  • Write/collaborate on a weekly or bi-weekly podcast yet to be determined.

Publishing

  • Get published in a literary magazine.
